What Is A Coach?

The main responsibility of a coach is to motivate an individual or an entire team. Coaches are focused on improving the performance and skills of athletes by conducting training sessions, coordinating practice drills, and providing guidance. Their work is conducted both on and off the field - not only while an athletic event is in session. There is a huge difference between teaching someone and helping them to learn. In coaching, fundamentally, the coach is helping the individual to improve their own performance: in other words, helping them to learn.

A Good Coach Is:

  • is positive.
  •  is enthusiastic.
  •  is supportive.
  •  is trusting.
  •  is focused.
  •  is observant.
  •  is respectful.
  •  is patient.
  •  is clear.
  •  is assertive.

Track & Field Coaches

Track and Field Coaches are responsible for providing leadership and guidance to student athletes in the program. Coaches teach fundamental skills, strategy & the physical training necessary for them to realize individual and team successes. Student-athletes also receive instruction that leads to consistent moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence. Coaches are responsible for the health, safety and welfare of every student-athlete participating in their program. Administration of our athletic programs is a considerable responsibility and the pressure for winning is taxing, but must not override the objectives of good sportsmanship & good mental health.
